Lal Bahadur Shstri: Rare Breed of Mr. Perfect PM Stephen kachappilly Cap The recent fraud detected in state-run Punjab National Bank has triggered crisis in the banking industry. The USD 1.77 billion (about Rs 11,400 crore) scam in PNB involves billionaire jeweler Nirav Modi allegedly acquiring fraudulent letters of undertaking (LoUs) from a branch in Mumbai to secure overseas credit from other Indian lenders.   Nirav Modi and Gitanjali Gems Chairman and Managing director, Mehul Choksi, who are the main accused in the scam left India in January.  Amid swindling of thousands of crores of rupees involving Punjab National Bank and a billionaire jeweller fleeing the country thereafter, there are also stories of repayment of loan posthumously. ASHAMED OF BEING ADDRESSED A  MALAYALI:   Mr. Madhu, Your death is the Reason  Stephen Kachappilly Capuchin First time in the last thirty-five years of my life, I felt ashamed and disgraceful of being addressed to be a Malayali or Keralite. How better to hide myself to an unknown abode than in a place which is being transformed to be a notorious home of habitual butchery in the name of religion, politics and culture. Surely not the state of Kerala is the first and only place of such activates in our country. But, such occurrence is never witnessed before, and not fitting with the superb title ‘God’s own country [ or God zone country, in both cases,  there can be questions like, which God? which zone? the name of God is unknown, so also the zone].’ This time our social activists targeted a poor, Mr. Madhu a thirty-year old Adivasi youth [ In the southern context, the word ‘adivasi’ is a discriminatory and embarrassing usage. However, I use this wo...

STAY ATTUNED WITH JESUS Fr. Dr. Stephen Kachappilly Cap Jerusalem is the place of traditions, strictly executed laws and regulations and prohibitions. In such a place, it was really a strange thing, a fictional dream to see a combination of teacher-disciples walking together on the roads, sitting on the lakeside, heading towards the synagogue, teaching in boat and having supper at the table of fellowship. So far, never been heard a teacher walking alone with his disciples, so to say the people of His time experienced highly head-raised, fraudster teachers mostly from the Pharisees and Scribes who called themselves experts in everything with self-imposed wisdom and extremely external piety. Their long black gown, long beard with a serious superficiality made them hard people to approach to. On the other hand, simplicity was the trademark of Jesus and in fact he wanted to teach that aspect of life to the entire flock of people willing to follow. Jesus was good enoug...

MOTHER ELISWA: A WOMAN WHO REACHED ON THE SUMMIT OF ‘UNRECOGNIZED SUCCESS’ Fr. Dr. Stephen Kachappilly Cap Mother Eliswa a stardom of the central Kerala explored many possibilities and managed to face all nuances of her time damming from the public to within. Consecrating herself into the holy self of Jesus, the fully immersed pious lady made some immediate penetrations towards the well-established social manipulations of her time. This meticulous woman, whose works were neither recognized nor honored earlier, is becoming a magnetic force and a spiritual panoramic in the upcoming facts-searching Kerala. A unique name, Mother Eliswa doesn’t stand for a person and congregation today, but rather she stands more to the families, nations and world at large. For this reason, no one can content herself into the small locality of Koonammavu, nor to a particular faith, politics or liturgical rites. Having undergone  a disciplined well-motivated way to  contemplation,...
